Flue gas scrubbing

Cleaning and preventing deposits in a flue gas scrubber

Our product HELAWAX HUM was dosed into a flue gas scrubber of a waste incineration plant over a period of 4 months.
The aim was to test whether the dosing could prevent the formation of deposits in the flue gas scrubber.

In the past, these deposits made it necessary to clean the system every 8 weeks, as the performance of the exhaust gas scrubber was no longer sufficient.
Furthermore, the supply lines to the absorber nozzles and the nozzles themselves had to be replaced regularly.

The condition of the scrubber and the storage container was documented before and after the test.

Task:

  • Prevention of deposits in the flue gas scrubber
  • Avoidance of cleaning downtimes, reduction of cleaning costs
  • Extension of the service life of the absorber nozzles and supply lines, reduction of maintenance and material costs
  • Improving the performance of the flue gas scrubber

Data of the system:

  • Waste incineration plant Incineration capacity 180,000 Mg p.a.
  • Flue gas cleaning process: Spray dryer – electrostatic precipitator – wet scrubbing (3-stage, wastewater-free) – activated coke reactor – catalytic converter (SCR)
  • Exhaust gas volume flow 60,000 Nm3/h

Before dosing began, the condition of the flue gas scrubber was documented and then mechanically cleaned as usual.

When the system was commissioned, HELAWAX HUM was dosed depending on the amount of make-up water.

After a short time, it was found that the quantities of sediment from the pH measurement probe filter were decreasing.

As planned, the flue gas scrubber was opened and inspected after 4 months.

There were still light residual deposits in the storage tank.
These were obviously old incrustations that had collected as coarse shells in the tank.
No new deposits had formed.

The Ringjet was in perfect condition.

The entire exhaust gas scrubber, including the absorber nozzles, was clean and free of deposits.

It was therefore no longer necessary to clean the flue gas scrubber.

Result:

The test showed that the use of HELAWAX HUM in the flue gas scrubber of the waste incineration plant was able to solve the coating problems.

Even existing residual deposits could be dispersed and removed from the system.
New incrustations were reliably prevented.

The dosage was continued by the customer.
